I figured I'd share my rock breaking pics with you guys. The first rock is about 8'x8'x4'. The other rock is bed rock that's sticking out of the ground. I'm intalling a new lawn so I needed to be at least 4" below grade.

Matt;)

That's cheatin, you didn't break the pebble that yellow thing did :p :D
Is that your baby rock breaker or is it rented? Looks like fun.

The excavator and hammer are rentals. But the deere is mine. I'm actually looking to buy an comparable deere mini ex but the cab version. I wouldn't put a breaker on a machine I owned. As for the pebble comment that rock yielded over 8 yds of rip rap. So not too shabby. If I had know how cheap and effective that breaker was I would have rented it years ago.

Greatwwwwhitehunter: I kept putting off buying and an ex because I just thought they were way to far out of my $$$$$$$$$ range. Well, when my BH broke and in all honesty wasn't the best thing for cattail clean up{arounds ponds} I started searching. Either I had to come up with a much bigger BH or I had to figure away to get an ex. I was surprised that a used ex{good to great shape} was going for just about the same as a BH. So I did a lot of searching and ended up with a mini JCB, and NEVER LOOKED BACK ONCE!!!!! I wish I had done this years ago, the machine is more handy then a tractor, especially with a thumb.

I also agree don't get a machine that has had a hammer they are usually abused. I kept all my big pebbles and used them as bondry markers, folks seem to think it looks purrty.

Well the issue with that rock was that it was placed there with a 200 sized ex when the house was being built. The paving contractor showed up eariler than he as supposed to and the ex could no longer get to the rock. It was like in the middle of my yard and isore for sure. I looked at it every day for 5yrs and said I was going to get rid of it. The other rock was bedrock in the way of a new lawn. I wish I had saved the 8k I spent on the bh and just bought a next to new 3.5-6 ton mini x. I saw a deere 35d cab with 400 hrs go for like 22k last year and have been kicking myself for not buying ever since. I've been getting away from the random rock walls and installing precast retaining wall blocks instead.

Yep sometimes getting the one job done out weighs another. I rented a 312 {35,000lb} cat for digging ponds and because of all our great weather up here was never able to finish what I started. I had that tipping pretty good with some of our over sized pebbles. So I finally found my JCB{4,000lb} 400-410hrs{can't remember} for under 10,000, worth every penny. It wouldn't move a pebble like what you have, but it is surprisingly strong. I use it for stuff I never would have dreamed of. Of course that becomes a problem in its own.... dreaming of stuff to to do :D. My wife thought I was nutz for wanting it. Funny how quickly that changed especially once she figured she could run it. Now I have to wait in line for my seat time :).

I see the place were I got mine now has a couple of machines{10,000lb I believe} with only 4hrs on them $25-26,000. That reminds me I need to go get a lottery ticket.
