Rotary Cutter for L3830

Still trying to decide on a rotary cutter for my L3830. I have looked at the woods bb72 around 700lbs and bush hog sq 72 arouind 650 Lbs. A Kubota dealer that sells both said the bush hog sq 72 would be better because the woods has more of its weight toward the back. Well the manual says it can handle up to 926Lbs. which in that case it should handle the bush hog 286 which is 922 Lbs. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I thought the woods hb 72 box blade would be to much, until I pulled it in med. up my 900 ft. drive which is pretty steep. I started pulling it down hill at first and then got a little curious and couldn't believe it. What kind of rotary cutters are some of you Grand L 3830 or similar tractor owners pulling now? Neil,

Which tractor are you pulling that landpride with? The Kubota or the Unimog?

Don't remember if you have PTOs on that mog or not... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Landpride 84" finish mower and a Woods DO 80, a 80" offset brush beast mower. It weighs 1300 lbs, but that weight is pretty much all on the ground all the time.

My Landpride mower which is about all that ever gets used anymore weighs just about 800 lbs. Even with the loader off, going up hills is never a problem. For your needs, try your mower off the ground up the steep hills but don't raise it very much. Climb your hill and prepare to drop the mower if necessary if the front comes off the ground. If your under the weight limit Kubota recommneds, you should be fine. I'm sure the weight rating is all about the geometry of the tractor as obviously, the L3830 can lift far greater weights then the manual states for implement maximum weight. Even the Kubota brochure shows the L3130 pulling a batwing which will not be lifted by the 3 ph hitch and therefore not fall under the restriction they advise. For your needs, go with at least a 72" brush mower and be in the approximate range they recommend especially with the loader off. If the loader is on, your going to easily be able to lift anymower in the 72" range safely. I am more impressed with my little L3830 HST everytime I use it. I know my mowing speed has increased and the ability to trim closer and do less string trimming has been fantastic, in fact, my string trimmer has yet to be started this season although its time to get it out. Thanks, Couldn't agree more about the L3830. After reading a few post about some tractors bogging down with thier box blades I was leary about going with a med duty until I pulled it with a full load (gravel and dirt) with teeth down up my hill. Maby the scarifiers was not down enough but it still impressed the heck /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif out of me. ---Shane

I am using a 72" Howse cutter. My 3830 has yet to struggle with it. I have gone up and down hills with no problems what so ever. The 3830 has plenty of power to spare when pulling this rotary cutter.
