Tractor
Kubota L4310HST
Hoping I can get some advice... I have a Kubota L4310 tractor. (43hp/36pto). I’ve been looking for a rotary cutter that is on the heavier duty side to use on brush. I found a Land Pride RCF2084 (7ft dual tail wheel) model. Specs show it’s rated for 45-90hp machines, handles 2” material. I’m just wondering how this 7’ cutter would work on my tractor or if it’s too big for my machine. The width of my rear tire path is just under 6’. I think if I was going to buy a new one, I’d get a 6’ machine which would be just big enough to cover my tracks, but this is a really nice cutter that’s in like new condition for a really good price. If my tractor can handle it, it would be a great deal. Thanks. IMG_1117.jpg

You will be fine.

My tractor is only 27 HP and I had a 6 foot bushog, so that is what I use, and it handles it fine. It is an older one too, made in the 1960's, so VERY heavy and my tractor handles it just fine.

It is pretty hard to argue with a good deal though. I would go out and get it for sure...

I think you be fine also as long as so run it on flat level ground , and in heavy stuff take less bites at a time and slow down . The dual wheel rear set up should help help you as far as stability , pick up correct blade speed ,keep your unit properly maintained .
I used to run a sq172 squeler with my L3400 Bota DT (worked great) .

The nice thing about using it on a hydro tractor is that it's easy to slow the tractor's ground speed down when needed going over really thick heavy spots while still keeping engine (and pto) rpm speed where it needs to be to run the cutter.

Heavy, thick grass will tax your hp more than tall stringy weeds or brush.

You'll be fine...nice score! If the tractor labors in the thick stuff, take a smaller bite and/or slow your ground speed.

I got the Landpride RCR2660 when I bought my L3301 last year. I cleared 3/4 mile trail through dense trees. It is rated up to 3" cutting capacity and considered medium duty.

I think your biggest issue will be the weight. That baby probably weighs about 1300# and hangs way out there. If you have a loader and bucket, it shouldn't be a problem, but without weight on the front of your tractor, you may find steering to be a little on the light side. This is easily fixed by adding weights to the front, but another expense if you don't already have weights or a loader.

Based on "common knowledge" and Kubota's implement recommendations in their Ops Manual (yes, I read TFM), I bought a Bushhog 286 6' bushhog.

I now wish I had ignored all that and bought a 7'. Made the same mistake with a LMC 6' box blade. I didn't make the same mistake with my EA 8' grader blade and soon-to-be-mine EA 7' land plane.

Too large a bushhog? Take a smaller cut, slower speed or raise the 'hog. Too small a bushhog? You're forked. There's nothing you can do to make it larger or cut wider.

I’m of the opinion that the 7’ cutter is way too big for your tractor. It will stick way far back & be harder to maneuver around obstacles. With weight that far back will make the front end very light & almost impossible to load on a trailer. My brother had one for one summer on a 70 hp John Deere which he traded off for a 6’ cutter. He 7’ cutter was just too long & heavy. I think you either go with a 6’ or go to the twin spindle 8’ cutter.

Land Pride makes a very nice twin spindle 7 footer...only sticks out 80" behind the tractor. It's on their website.
