Brought her home when just 5 weeks old, the runt and last of her litter to leave - way too soon.

She lived a great life. Got to travel a bit. Terrific Mom to 6 youngins.

A number of companions along the way, but none that ever replaced her Jack, who passed way too young.

She took to retired life, celebrating her 10th by the pool

But today, the cancer won, 12 years, 2 months, 3 days of pure love
You did it your way, one final truck ride to breakfast, one last goodbye..

I'm terribly sorry for the loss of your family member. I know the pain as well.:weepy: God bless you and your family. The good Lord had to call up another one of his angels. He will rub Ruby's belly and scratch her ears till you can take over again.

Sorry to hear of your loss. These little guys have a way of getting into your heart. We love our boxers, we have 2, Bubba and Sydney, father and daughter. The only way god could improve a dog would be to allow them a 30 or 40 year life.

I understand your pain and I am sorry she is gone.

"Lord, help me be the man my dog thinks I am".

sodamo, what a beautiful tribute...I have tears filling my eyes as I compose this and am so sorry for your loss. MY experience has shown me that the runts of the litter always have have the biggest hearts. Again, I am sorry for the heartbreak you are dealing with.

+1 on sharing the pictures and thoughts. Perhaps she is now with her pal Jack..

Sorry for your loss. We lost our Gracie to cancer at only 4 years of age, she was a special pup. My sympathies...

I am sincerely sorry for your loss. There are constant tears in my eyes as I reply to your post. One of our dogs - Lady Dog II is laying next to me on the couch. She is seven.

I am very sorry for you loss, its very hard to part with a dear friend, but she'll be waiting for you when the time comes. Cancer is a terrible thing to have in an animal who'm you care so much for. Growing up I cannot recallit being such an issue in pets. We had the same thing happen years ago and looking back,I can only say that perhaps it had something to do with the once a month flea and tick treatments. This is only my opinion, but we no longer use it.
Once agin I am very sorry for you loss and did not mean to get off the subject my friend,it could have been many things, but this passing I have in common.

Thanks guys, reading this really means alot. Even though I had said goodbyes at least 6 times since last fall, and I had just called the vet before preparing her place, it still hit me hard when I went back to the truck and found her passed. I'm so glad I had stopped and petted and talked to her before getting the tractor.

So, if I may...

I think today, the other dogs are more aware of her absence. Two moreso than the others. Kalani joined us at just 6 weeks old, she'll be 5 yo next Monday, so Ruby was something of a Mom to her. Kalani was still a pup herself of maybe 7 months when Jack passed. Ruby was definitely affected, but young Kalani needed a playmate and forced her to live and enjoy. Without Kalani, we had no doubt, Ruby would have joined Jack in short order. Kalani is a talker, last night she just kept coming to my chair, vocally expressing herself. This morning even moreno, with almost with an edge that she wasn't getting the answer she wanted. Yep, this is the same dog that comes and tells me when the food or water bowl is empty, even if not for herself.
One of Kalani's pups, Pele turned 3 on 7/3, and has had a special relationship with Ruby since a pup, grooming and worrying over her, especially these last few months. As our habit, we fed the 3 older dogs breakfast, except there were but 3 this morning. Ruby had mastered the technique of eating hers and still getting something from the other 3 plates - with nary a complaint from the others. Even though they had been looking for her since last night, it was obvious She was missing at breakfast. We had to coax them to eat- even with real chicken in the dish. Kalani never did, Pele kinda nibbled, but Flash sensed the reality and not only ate his and Kalani's, but some of Pele's.
Boxers are like kids, each has their own personality. I suspect they all do, I just never noticed until having boxers.

I know how you feel. Had our lab for fifteen years before cancer got to him. Had to have him put down. One of the hardest things I ever had to do and one of the worst days of my life. But we have some great pictures, video and lots of great memories that make us all laugh when we think back. I'm sure you will look back in time with warm memories too that last a lifetime.

I am sorry for your loss. I'm in tears, too, reading about it. My 11 year old buddy is lying behind my chair, cowering from the thunderstorm. His day is coming too soon.

Ive seen it many times in my 32 years. Dad used to raise hunting dogs and mom raised collies and I had Germanshepherds. I got my lily about the same time I joined TBN. Shes getting up there now. She has more miles riding with me than my wife. I try to keep myself ready for that day. We have a dog cemetary out back and even one at work for the Landfill dogs. Dad had his first dog that lived there when he first started it. Its marked with large boulders and wild day lillies even when the Landfill was logged it wasnt to be driven over. I was offered work at the vets office one time but I knew I couldnt handle the days when a erson had to take their buddy in for that.

We had a friend whose old dog was put down. I had dug the hole in the dog cemetary at work and brought him wrapped in his favorite blanket. He was in the front bucket of the old backhoe and I set him out and the 2 landfill dog Mama and Bonehead had gone out that way. They were laying one either side of Bailey's body and were letting out mourning howls. It was unbeleivable sad, They stayed the night at the grave through a 3 inch snow. THe howled off an on the next day.
