Went into the local Tractor Supply Co. store with the wife to pick up scratch feed & black oil seed (wife likes fat birds...) and stumbled across some mark down items. They were some "unsellables" for various reasons and the manager wanted them off the inventory. It started with a couple of items in the front of the store, but it turns out there was a bunch of stuff "out back".
I didn't buy everything, but did pick up a few things. I got a 6' scaffold unit (It had been stored outside, the box had disintegrated & the wood deck was delaminating) for $10, a 12' pickup hose for an agrifab tow behind leaf vac with most of the hardware items for $5, a 75K BTU torpedo kerosene heater for $10 and a 70K BTU radiant kerosene heater for $10. It turns out the scaffold was complete (even the wheels) - no missing parts. All I need to do is remove/replace the bad plywood deck & I have a few pieces of 5/8" plywood out in an outbuilding at the acreage.
The two kerosene heaters are AC powered w/pressurized fuel systems & spark plug igniters. After I got them home I added some fresh K1, plugged them in & gave them a try. The radiant took a couple of on/off cycles but eventually lit off & ran well. The torpedo fan & igniters fired up but it wasn't lighting off. I had to turn up the fuel pressure adjustment to get it running (it was < 2 & should be about 4.2 psi), then had to back it off when it moved higher. After on/off it would sometimes not want to spin up the fan/pump, but I think it may just be coming from a clearance issue with the air pump rotor. I plan to clean the filters, blow out the lines & check the pump rotor disc for condition and adjustment. Both heaters are rated for use with either K1 or diesel (but not bio-diesel).
Retail on the various items totaled something like $675 - $700 if they had been NIB, but my "as is" cost was $35.
I was tempted by a pile of other items, probably 3 unassembled wheel barrows, 2 or 3 unassembed ATV dump trailers + a damaged wire mesh flat bed ATV trailer, all kind of piled together. He offered those plus the heaters for $100 if I would get them out of there that day, but I don't have anyplace to stash/hide that much junk ....
