Scotts 2548
Hi,

New to the forum and looking for some help. I have a 2548 that was mowing well the other day then all of the sudden the deck stopped. The engine continued to run but the deck clutch would not engage. I had this happen a few years ago and after changing the clutch found out that it was the voltage regulator, as I was getting no power to the clutch when the switch was engaged. It has been no issue for years until the other day. After doing some testing I found that the clutch was actually engaging when the ignition switch was on but the engine not started/running. I tried to jump the seat switch and could get the deck to engage with the motor running but it would kill the engine as soon as the deck engaged. So I have come to the conclusion that once the deck engages a safety is telling the ignition to shut down. Due to lack of free time from work, I decided to buy and change out the mower engage switch, the seat switch and for the heck of it I changed out the relay that is mounted by the solenoid. After installing all of that, same issue. I found that with the engine running and the mower switch in the "on" position I can step on the reverse peddle and the mower clutch will engage but the engine shuts off immediately. I tried jumping the reverse safety button that you use to keep the mower running when backing up and it did not help. I also tried unplugging the transmission switch and jumping that as well. No luck.

I guess at the least I need a wiring diagram and a trouble shoot flow chart but even more "I Need to Cut My Grass!!" If you have any ideas I would love to hear them?hanks

After checking it out some more it seems that the seat switch is working backwards. If the engine is running and the mower switch is in the run position, PTO clutch is not energized but as soon as I take the weight off of the seat, the clutch engages and the motor shuts off. So, as far as I am concerned the seat switch is doing it's job when it comes to the ignition but working oposite when is comes to the deck/PTO...Anyone even have a guess??

Welcome to TBN knotjohn,

Just a guess but does the relay or pto switch have three terminals? A lot of relays will have NO and NC contacts along with the middle Common contact swapping the wire from the NO or NC contact will reverse how it functions. Don't know if this applies to your mower or not.
