Yeah, I was actually disappointed that I had to wear my vest that day. The daffodils had already bloomed and run their course before we got there. It's been a strange year for weather so far.

Been there, done that. Here in Middle Tennessee, we have the expression of a thing called the "County Rock". Thats the rock you hit that the whole county is sitting on. A few years back, I had this "small" little rock poking out of the ground in my back yard. It was just high enouph to be annoying with the lawn mower deck. My neighbor across the street has a large Ford backhoe, so I decide to borrow it for a couple of minutes (yah, right) and pop the "small" rock out of of my yard. Well, needless to say 2 hours later and a hole 12' wide and 10' deep, alas, I have gotten the rock out. It was in 3 pieces, laying vertical, just below the suface of my lawn. The hoe had a terrible time trying to get these rocks out. Estimated each piece weighed around 5 to 7 thousand pounds! After that, any "small rocks I found in my yard, I just took a hammer and chisel and knocked the top off of them.

Believe me Harv, after chipping through a foot and a half of stone, still a foot to go with no end of the stone in site, I felt the same way.

Yes have done the same thing at my old house in Suburbia.

Needed a bobcat to get it out. Was like an ice berg with just a hint above ground showing what lies beneath..........

I had a similar situation too.

I wanted to add a deck to the back of my house - just a small one only 2' off the ground. But Fairfax County Virginia code says that the supports for any deck must be sunk at least 36" deep. I hit solid rock ledge at 18" down and NOTHING would convince the inspector that any other solution than putting that 6 x 6 down another 18" into that rock was not going to risk the lives of everyone in the county.

I love it out where I am now - there were no building codes until just this last summer and there's no record of what structures looked like before then.

Funny you should put it that way, Gordon. My wife's comment (with a slightly disdainful tone) was, "You can turn anything into a tractor project, can't you?".
