Those dimples in the plate (shown above) is what can get you hurt. A bullet that hits into that dimple can follow the curvature in order to ricochet back at you or bystanders.
Allowing the use of ammo that can make dimples is a no-no. Either use harder steel or reduce the velocities IMO.

Those are my hunting loads I was shooting, so reducing FPS won't work. We never shoot steel at less than 300 yards. usually 400-800 yards. I know you've probably seen the U-Tube of the guy shooting the 50 and a round buzzes back to the shooter and knocks he ear muffs off. Probably an FMJ weighing close to 500 grains traveling out the muzzle at about 2700-2800. I'm only shooting a 100 or 107 grain BTHP at around 3000 fps. Even on a soft skinned deer they tend to disintergrate before much of an exit.
