I have recently come to grief with my '94 JD 265. It is a L&G tractor with a Kawasaki 17HP engine and HST. The engine has about 375 hours.
The motor runs great but the transmission is rather spongy. The forward and reverse velocity has diminished about 30%. I am able to spin the rear wheels when butted against a tree but the tractor just does not go as fast as it used to.
The belt has been changed and the fluid and filter replaced. I can't say this has been a gradual reduction in performance. I banged through some pretty tough snowbanks this winter and may have abused it. Is it the experience of others that there is a degradation over time with this transmission? It should also be noted this tractor is used for pulling boat and utility trailers around.
Also, where would one recommend this unit be repaired? The local dealer said there may be fluid leaking around the swash plate, whatever that is.
All comments welcome, even those that believe I have misused the unit.
