Small Trenching Bucket fro gc2319 BH

I have a 2310 and I amy looking to make the narrowest trench I can for a french drian in the bottom of my ditch in the front yard. What are my options?

If you have clay soil you have no options, a narrow bucket will tend to pack tight and require you to manually remove the dirt after almost every bite.
I was warned about this before I built my 6" bucket but, I invested the time and resources only to find out they were all right.
A veteran excavator will usually not want to use a bucket smaller than 12" because of this phenomenon.
When I really want a narrow trench I have to rent a trencher. Not cheap but, really fast. Not going to help you though.

Try welding a section of 5/16" or 3/8" chain to the top inside of the bucket about 18-24" long (just short enough that it won't stick out past the teeth). It will help break the suction of the clay so that it can fall out of the bucket.

Thanks Jerry, I have been told to try that. I bought the chain in 6 months ago and have not had time to try it. I have to say I am skeptical of it working since every thing else did not, (i.e. dual taper shape, air holes, various lubricants, coatings). If I can, I will try it this weekend and report back.

Tried the chain, its too dry around here right now. I could not find a wet enough area to test it properly. Stay tuned.

Good post I hadn't thought about this issue. I get enough sticking with a 16" bucket..... I have not used my 9" yet... but was planning on it in a couple of weeks......... maybe I'll stick with the 16.
