Kris, I have the same problem with my hilly drive, and R-4's. I am thinking about going with chains on front; like the ones on the rear, which are Valby ice chains. I'm thinking that it shouldn't do too much damage, if I behave myself, while pushing back snow. I actually have more problem while blowing and/or trying to turn, than I do while pushing snow back. I can't think that packed snow/ ice, would allow enough force from traction to hurt anything, but I, like you have been extremely cautious about it trying it.
