I used my back blade for the first time yesterday...worked really well. We are getting some melting today and I see that it scratched up the asphalt some. Is there a technique to avoide this? I read some folks add an ABS pipe to the cutting blade. What has worked for you folks?

Quite a few folks use PVC (or other plastic) pipe (split lengthways to ffit on the blade) or other non-metallic scrapers (horse mat, old truck mudflaps cut down) bolted to the cutting edge of that blade.
When I used a rear blade, I just set the 3PH so the cutting edge was an inch above the surface. My drive is gravel, so a few scrapes don't bother me.
Another thing, use the convex side of the blade (to push) if at all possible.

I would think those scratches are very superficial, not like what my V-bar chains do :(

Any plow will leave some marks, usually not an issue, if it is then I'd go with the hard rubber like Roy mentioned, the split pipe would work, but is better suited to gravel IMO

A little time and the scratches will fade.

I agree in a little time the scratches will fade. Ive been plowing snow for yrs, more then i care to admit, for twshp, and personal contracts. You guys crack me up worrying about things like this, a plow is no good if it doesnt clean the surface you are plowing. I have a fairly long gravel drive way , my brother does also, the last thing we worry about is plowing the gravel. the plow marks on a hard surface are nothing. If you pay attention you can do a fairly good job easily The customers I plow for want it CLEAN or as much as possible. You cant get it clean with the plow edge covered or elevated. If you run chains and spin out you do more damage the the plow edge. just my 0.02cts.
