On the way up to my home town today to place flowers on the graves for Memorial Day, some of my siblings and I stopped at this sod house. One on my great uncles and his wife lived in it up until about 25-30 years ago when they moved into town, it was in a lot better shape then it is now. The house and farmland are no longer in the family.
As you can see by the pictures that one wall is partially down. Even with the long time period without anyone living in it and the state of disrepair, we found a advertising flyer in the house addressed to the great uncle from surge milkers and date Spring 1949. It is in pristine condition and appears to be only a few years old. How it survived this long and in this condition is truly amazing.
