So I can regrade my driveway, I need to make a ripper for my skid steer. I was thinking of a simple cross tube with two or three chisel plow shanks. They just bolt onto the tube. The points are a dime a dozen, but I can't find the shanks anywhere. Does anybody have a source for the shanks?

I have just gone to my implement dealer and bought parts,

I think the Krause Tillage Tools - Kuhn Krause - KUHN KRAUSE parts were the lower cost, but just have him look up a few models and price the shanks, if not what your willing to pay try a different brand, (I felt Deere parts were a little pricy) the other is go to a farm auction and buy a Junker a and part it out many times one can get them for scrap iron price,
a few years ago a neighbor sold us a old chisel plow for $100, it was junk to him,

I have just bought parts from the dealer for the shanks. some to repair my deere chisel and Krause for my home built units,

here is one place with a 26" shank

roll a cone makes tool bar parts, I made a cultivator using there products one time,

Go to a farm auction. I was at one today they had tons of that type of stuff for cheap.

You can try a bone yard. The boot heal of Missouri has a few and there are a few here in KY also. Surly there are some in WI. Drane farm equipment might have something they deal in parts for some things. Also try pm Ken Sweet here he seems to have things of this nature and I know he ships all over the country.

It would probably be cheaper to get a used box blade with the ripping shanks than making one with chisel shanks.

Have you looked at the land planes? They work well for leveling driveways. As a matter of fact, that is what they use to maintain the gravel portion of the road that reaches Pike's Peak.

The land planes can have angled blades to help build the crown in you driveway or have the blades straight across for generalized leveling. Either one can be use to maintain your driveway. If you build one, the cutting edge is normally 3/4-1" below the side skids.

There are several threads here on homemade ones. Also check out YouTube for videos.

You are right. Chisel plough shanks were not designed for ripping.

I think ripping is a some what subjective, if one uses a shank for heavy chisel on a small Hp tractor or machine it should work fine for a ripper, and a lot depends on how deep one want to go per pass, my guess is he want a scarfer more than a true riper,

I think he could easily make some shanks out of 3/4" by 3" or 4" flat, with a point shaped piece welded on that would accept a ripper point usually only one bolt

or a system like this.
