First off, I'm new to tractors and landowning. I have an XR4140HC on order. I'd like to have a set of forks to help with a lot of things, (#1 being unloading other implements I will be ordering).

So what is the concensus on forks for this size tractor? 42 vs. 48? Best value for the money?

That a 40 some hp tractor, based on the numbers ? Go 48" for sure. You'll find a set of quick attach forks the handiest thing you'll own.

Agree that 48" would be best for you.
Titan make a reasonably priced set.

Yes thanks. It's 40hp even. Dealer wanted close to 1k for 48" forks and I knew I could do better. Any specific reccomendations? I am outside EA free delivery zone. Can anyone beat the price/value of the Titan forks I see advertised here?

I doubt you can beat Titan's price unless you find a used set on CL.
I would have bought Titan but I bought a new set from a local skid steer surplus center sale for the same price. Titan forks on fleebay have free shipping.

I don't remember how much I paid for mine, from a Bobcat dealer, but Bobcat brand was ~$500 bucks 5 years ago, and I agree, very vey useful

When I went to my dealer to buy a nice set of Land Pride pallet forks, the salesman said he would be glad to order a pair for me, but they had never sold a pair as they were in their opinion too expensive for what you get. They normally shopped around with specs in mind and price in mind and bought a truck load. I saved several hundred dollars and bought what they had on hand, Loflin or Titan. I would be comfortable with Titan, Loflin or Tomahawk etc. We prefer 48" for our uses, we use them on our M8540, 5740 and my brother has the same for his CK27.

I can't say the 48" are "better" than 42", uses differ, but they work great for us.

I'd go 48" x 4000lb. Titan for sure. You can also get 5', 6', and 7' extension for large items.

This is what we have;
