It turns out I screwed up. When hooking up my return line to the tank, I installed an additional coupler fitting at the tank to allow the return line a bit more slack. I grabbed it when I was at TSC and assumed it was the same part as my other 1/2" couplers. As it turns out it this part had a brass restrictive plug in it which obviously was the reason for the excessive back pressure. I removed that connection and added a new filter and happily ripped through about half a cord of oak! Thanks to all who chimed in. Greatly appreciated.-Steve
