Spring Plowing

   / Spring Plowing #21
From the sounds of things D7E, many in southern manitoba, may be looking for underwater ploughs this spring. :(

Surely hope the floods do not happen.:)

I was almost ready to go Monday but we got burried by more than a foot of snow since then. Thankfully, the weatherman called it right and I still had the "snow" plow on the 4wd tractor and not the moldboard. I also love snowplowing and have gotten plenty of it this winter. Here in upstate NY, the temps are going to be below freezing until next weekend anyhow. That should give me time, in a warm shop, to get the rest of the equipment into good shape before letting it rip when the snow melts, ground thaws and the creeks go down. My plow, disc, drag, planter, and cultipackers are ready to go. One 2wd tractor is sorely in need of a clutch job however and (2) still need oil changes & lube. Those ones are best left in the barn anyhow until all the ground is good and dry.

Looking at the thread title, I had to think-- "Yeah, how do I remove the snow without digging into dirt & stones?"

No, I don't farm... but "spring plowing" brings horror stories to mind about the sound of gravel shooting out my snowblower's mouth! Decisions, decisions... FEL or blower or leave it to melt??

It seems we always have some late snow that's deep enough not to be left alone....

I've got a lot of respect for you tractor drivers that plant stuff!
