That's the number of historical posts on this board as of a few minutes ago. I started to think about how many of them come from the Star Members ... and ... Shazzam ... here's the answer (which will be obsolete before I post it}:

-- Bird, the Guiness poster, has 1811 posts, which is 10.91% of the historical total. Holy Moly, the ex captain is a marvel.

-- MarkC has 1440, for 8.68%

-- Wen has 1432, for 8.63%. (Better get in gear, Wen, Mark's whuppin' ya.)

-- Gordon has 755, for 4.55%

-- JimBinMI has 719, for 4.33%

If I have left out any Star Member, I apologize.

-- Muhammad, can't forget the Creator, has 1518, for 8.63%

Together, these 6 screen names have 46.26% of the total historical posts on this board. Amazing!

What is more amazing, however, is a news report that is probably going to break on the Drudge Report this weekend. I have gotten the following advance copy:

"Lake Glimmerglass, New York -- Investigators for the federal Archeological and Geological Survey have reported that a webmaster here has recruited a loyal army of heavy equipment owners. Sources have revealed that the webmaster, like a modern-day cybernetic Wizard of Oz, has recruited this worshipful following largely through the use of his alter ego screen names, called Star Members. He imparts semi-divine omniscience to these Star Member creations using digital imaging tricks down to the detailed level of coffee cups. Investigators for the Archeological and Geological Survey also believe that the unrevealed master plan of the webmaster's organization is nothing less than to ...."

Well, the report goes on with several provocative details and unconfirmed speculations--but you get the point.

Can someone confirm or deny, with proof positive, whether this ugly rumor about our Star Members is true or not. Are they real ... or are they Memorex?

I've been accused of talking too much in the past, but I didn't know anyone had surpassed Mark (you were talking about number of messages instead of number of words, though, weren't you?)./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif And I'm a relative newcomer to the forum when you consider folks like Von./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Glenn great post where do you dig these ideas up? /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
Never said that I wasn't a big mouth!!!! Guess that goes without saying. Sure have learned alot here since I started posting. Hopefully I've given some good information to others as well---live is a two way street.

Bird--Number of posts versus number of words shew thats a tough one. I am a newcomer compared to the others so I guess I'm the one who talks too much!!!/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Guess it all boils down to this--I'm a big mouth./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Been called much worse than that in my lifetime---all is well.

Wow, you're giving me credit for all those posts? /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif I wish I could figure out how to get this forum to have a mind of it's own... and as smart as our Star Members?? That would be something. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Glenn, you should write novel. I want a 6-in-1 bucket and a lazer guided 3 pt. hitch draft control, real smooth roads. Then we all need the optional raido controled tractor so when its just to nasty out we can still get some work done!

Bird,
I must be a man of few words, as I have less than 150 post. As for being here since the start, I've got an older tractor so I need more info to keep it working up to par. I still want to upgrade to the B2910, maybe in the spring. Just got the driveway paved so there goes the money for the upgrade. Oh well, there is always next year!

Do you know what Lake Glimmerglass is, Muhammad? I often put literary and other references in my posts.

Not off the top of my head... I could, of course, look it up and see what I find, though. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif I just found the name interesting, and something you might even find in the upstate region, considering some other lake names there. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Glenn -

You're already a Star Member in my book. Your contributions to this board have made it one of the most enjoyable sites on the internet.

In fact, I have casually wondered about this "promotion" scheme ever since I hit Gold before I even had a tractor. I've never been promoted for asking dumb questions before. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Although I've never been a stickler for titles, I have occassionally tried to think of a better scoring technique. The current approach is to simply count posts (belienve me, I understand that from a software point of view), but it's too bad that your classic "One Act Play" counts the same as a post consisting entirely of the word "Ditto". Weighing content would be much more desirable, but virtually impossible to implement. /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif

Then you could rack up points for spelling, punctuation, grammar, dialect ... Come to think of it, the simple counting approach is perfect./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

On a serious note (I find I have to say that 'cuz few people can tell when I'm being serious) -- Muhammad, you earlier asked for suggestions for replacing the ICQ field in the profiles? It would require periodic updates by the members, but I would love to see "seat time" measureed in approximate hours. It took me a long time to figure out who the real pros were and who were the beginners, like me. It would actually make a difference to me to know if the advice I'm being offered is coming from a 3,000-hour veteran or a well-meaning, but inexperienced tractor owner.

Harv...

First, on the scoring technique... I've thought about it, for sure... but like you said, things get tricky. Post rating could be an option... say you would pick a rating of 1-10 for a post... well then even so, changing a user's title based on that would be tricky as well. Anyway...

And second, I will add some more profile fields very soon... Tuesday, to be exact. Thanks for the idea for 'seat time'. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
