Hi,

I just put new seals in a Danfoss open center, 4 port (2 sided ram) orbital valve for my Long 310c. Seems like a simple enough mechanism, but for some reason when I went to reassemble the Cardan shaft seems to be sitting a little proud and is interfering with the bottom end plate when I go to tighten everything up.

Here's the exploded diagram:

Mine has a little bearing that sits at the bottom end of the Cardan, which it rides on. That bearing is sitting ~1.5mm above the plane of the gear wheel - worried it will bind up when I torque the bolts. I can not see where I could possibly go wrong in the assembly to create this interference.

Any thoughts or guidance are much appreciated.

Thanks

I don't see the little bearing you're mentioning in the exploded diagram. Does it have a callout number?

Yeah, it appears as though they got rid of it in their more recent design and this is the only diagram I can find. Here are some pictures of my setup:

Page 20 talks about installing thrust bearings. Is the bearing you are referring too?

Are you sure that ball is not the check ball that goes beneath the threaded bushing in the plate below the outer gear?

Well, I went out and pulled that threaded bushing (I had not bothered previously) and sure enough - no bearing! I can't understand how it would have escaped unless someone had misplaced it during a previous rebuild.

I should have looked before I posted. Thanks for pointing out what should have been an obvious place to start. Everything buttoned up nicely and hopefully I've got it timed properly. Won't know for a little while because I have a lot more cleaning to do before I can put everything back together and test it out.

Thanks again!
