Our winters here in the White Mountains of NH have been getting icier than ever. I started using a front mounted landscape rake top strip ice almost 40 years ago with great success, both commercially and residentially. I now leave this 6' rake set up on my Kubota BX22 for just such occasions. You can see it here:

That is an interesting idea. Good video - seeing is believing. You must have to get the timing right and go after it before it is rock hard or is that not the case ??? Looks a lot easier than trying to crunch it up with the tire chains like I do. Thanks for posting.

Looks like a 3 point rake mounted up front. How did you fab that up?

I have used a rear mounted landscape rake for this purpose but what you have fabricated is far superior, good job!

Would it work as well on the 3pt?

I use the rake on the 3pt with the scarifier down. That way, the weight of the rake causes the scarifier teeth to dig into the ice. The tines can then be angled to sweep the ice chips to the side. The down side is, you have to travel forward on the ice before it is broken up. Not a problem when using chains.

With the FEL, you can apply down pressure on the rake, forcing it to dig into the ice. No down pressure on the 3pt.

I use the disc on the 3pt of the BX2230 with concrete blocks for extra weight on it to break up an icy drive. Jon

It works totally the same. You may beable to put a bit more weight on the rake but then you loose steering.

If you want to really see one of these tear up ice, remove every other tine. Mine stays permanently like this with a 100lb suitcase weight on the pivot.
