RS 1000 Struck Crawler Tractor Review ~ purchased 5/13.
390cc Honda engine/Blade and rear rippers are hydraulic.
Total cost =$8100 at factory.
NEGATIVES: Tracks have optional grousers. The grousers are made from U channel steel and are bolted to the flat tracks. In mud or snow they fill and provide very poor traction. The U channel design is a bad choice.
The blade requires 2 セ inch wrenches to angle and 15 minutes time on ones knees to set the angle each time. When plowing snow, the angle is not adequate because large clumps of snow will exit the high side of the blade.
There are also no steering brakes in the design. Steering is controlled by two levers operated by one hand placed over both. The hydraulics are controlled by the other hand. Lots of luck trying to steer if the ground is even slightly uneven. This problem is exacerbated by the fact that the transmission is a hydrostatic drive system, not a gear system, which means that even with minimal throttle the forward progress is too fast for the hydraulic front blade to cope with same. This makes a front 吐loat when grading Very hard to control This type transmission works well on riding mowers but not on dozers. I have owned and operated several dozers. I presently own a larger dozer and have many hours operating it. Correction is accomplished by steering brakes, a design that is much easier to operate.
Finally, the seat does not tilt up and when it rains it traps water very well.
POSITIVES: The quality of the materials is good and the workmanship is also very good. The Honda 390 engine is excellent and has more than adequate power. The rear hydraulic rippers are very good and work well when the ground is fairly dry, but add a little mud and forget it.
