When new, the Yanmar YM165d came standard with ag tread. The turf tire option was about a thousand dollar adder. You can't swap between turf and ag tires withot also swapping the wheels.
Are we certain that the front (or rear) ring & pinion ratio is the same, between Yanmars with turf tires or ag tires? Or maybe a there's a different ratio inside the transmission depending on tires?

I thought I saw somewhere that ag vs turf needed to be specified to get the right replacement parts.

And I'm pretty sure there is a difference in ratios listed in the parts books, among Japan / US / Britain / Europe markets, depending on the local tire specs.

Anybody know if this is relevant for this US YM165D?

Scotty I thought it was you who posted long ago that their little Yanmar stays in 4wd continually because it is operated only on loose ground. No, somebody else?

My YM186D 4wd shifter is real stiff, apparently from seldom being shifted. An urban landscape contractor was the first owner so the tractor must have seen a lot of pavement in its first 30 years, as well as being operated by inexperienced labor. No evidence of damage.

I only shift to 2wd if I get out on the unpaved lane, to exercise the shifter and keep it usable. The orchard here is all disced, rough to drive on, so I assume the ground is loose enough to slip and avoid damage.

This is 5103 Fm. Rear AG 13.6-28 And they work really well also. Turf tires in Ga. are rare. High dollar place 38 acres!

Both tires in the links I sent are same specs except .5" difference in diameter of my turf front. Since I won't have it in 4x4 all the time and only when needed, I figured it wouldn't hurt.

No 4wd. on any of my tractors in Ga.. The Ford has AG. rear also. Anti freeze for weight and they don't bother my yard. My profile pic. is the front yard. Loader on it. Cold weather WV. Mtns. where I'm from Org. I would have it for the Mtn's and snow season no doubt!

Anyone know where a flywheel ring gear for this 165D would be?

Not me. I only use 4wd for short distances as necessary.

A stiff 4wd shifter when trying to shift OUT of 4wd almost always means that there is "wind up" somewhere in the 4wd mechanism because the tires couldn't slip. An easy diagnosis is to use the loader to lift the front wheels. If it suddenly is easy to shift out of 4wd, it was because there was windup and now the tires can suddenly unwind. Often only a fraction of an inch. ..hopefully the torsional windup is only in the front driveshaft, not the tranny.
Probably the dirt let them slip just enough.
