Oil & Fuel Stupid is as Stupid Does Transmission Overheat?

Hi Guys;
Was clearing some small trees today in order to clear a path around my property border. Came across a small rut while bulldozing the trees and I noticed it had a very hard time pushing even the smallest diameter tree. After several attempts I was getting a little agitated with the tractor and opened the throttle as wide as it could go, got a running head start and still no torque. Checked the parking brake and it was off so I tried it again and again. Started to smell hot oil from the transmission and stopped everything.

Thats when I had "I am a dumbass" moment and realized I still had the transmission in high. Once I let it cool down a little, tried in in low and it was unstoppable. I hope I didnt reduce the life of her because I was stupid. This spring I am changing all the fluids including the transmission even though i still have less than 160 hours on it (it will have been 3 years). Anything I should keep an eye on because of this?

Doubt it did anything to the fluid. The pressure bypass was likely opening up and not allowing the tractor to go against such force from the tree. Since it was internally bypassing, not much was going through the hydraulic cooler, thus causing the fluid to heat up.

Hydraulic fluid should be pretty stable. It's the most highly refined lube oil made that isn't a synthetic.

If the fluid was badly overheated, it would change color, (i.e. darken). If that has not happened, I wouldn't worry too much.

If it has, I would change it soon.

It didn't damage my tractor when I did that.
