I have been troubleshooting starting issues on my STX30. New battery. When running, it is being charged. Problem is when I try to start, it does not engage the starter all the time but is intermittent. I jumpered around all the wiring and went right from battery to starter and cranks fine. I suspected one of the switches or interlocks. I disassembled the dead mans switch under the seat - continuity checked fine. Push in the button and switch closes, release and it opens.
I opened the case where the ignition switch and mower switch are and inspected. Looked fine. Removed the fuse and reinstalled. I then started it while standing on the ground next to tractor and it starts every time with the seat dead man switch disconnected.
This seems counterintuitive to me. Dead man switch is disconnected is an open circuit, shouldn't start right?
Any thoughts? I don't have a wiring diagram to validate with.....
