swap new keyfob to 99 gmc2500

we have a gms 2500 at work with the key fob for doorlocks.. etc.

fob finally bit the dust.

we have another fob from another gmc we don't have anymore.. how do you get the truck to recognize the new fob?

I know on my old 99 ford f350, you do some deal with turning the key on and off a few times and then hit a button and it switches tot he new fob. is there a procedure like that for the gmc?

Here's what I did to program my FOB. Some models require you to use a jumper on the diagnostic port under the dash. Do a google search for GMC fob programming.

1. Close all vehicle doors.


2. Insert the key into the ignition.

3. Hold down the power UNLOCK button on the driver’s door panel-continue to hold
down until instructed to release in step 9.

4. Perform steps 5 through 8 in fairly rapid succession.

5. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (as far as you can go without starting the
engine).

6. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.

7. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

8. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.

9. Release the power unlock button on the door panel. The vehicle will lock and unlock
the doors automatically.

10. Hold down the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the transmitter simultaneously until
the door locks and unlocks.
This step may take up to 30 seconds.

11. Repeat step 10 NOW for each additional transmitter (including any existing
transmitters).

12. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position in order to exit the transmitter programming
mode.

vehicle responded like it should, but didn't take new fob. new fob may be too new? it was from a spare 06/07 vehicle that was let go and other vehicle is a 99? perhaps different frequency?

That would be my guess.

If you still want a key fob, they have all different prices on ebay. I have do this many times over the years as family and friends loose them they come to me to take care of these.
