Switching to one plow cylinder?

Well if it's not thing it's another. The poor old cylinders on my plow had set for some time and were leaking out the weep holes. I pulled one apart and the inside of the tube is pretty rough and I doubt that new seals will help. I am considering going to one dual action cylinder vs the two single action cylinders. Has anyone gone this route? Any advantages or disadvantages?

Just get on Ebay and get some aftermarket cylinders for you snow plow. I got 2 new ones for $120 to my door that were a exact fit for my 7' Meyer Plow.

Surplus Center also has them.

I have an old kubota plow that has a different style of cylinder than a standard snow plow. They have a clevis style end on them and I have not seen anything comparable to replace them with.

Even if it depends on what size forces that will hit the structure of the blade, I always would prefer a cylinder on each side of pivot point for best support...

If you can handle the cost, I would take 2 DA cylinders and cross mount them.....capped side on one to rod side of the other and vv....that way each side will actually both push and pull, with same force and speed in both directions....one DA cylinder on one side would not be good on structure, if not designed for it....same with two SA cylinders, they will only act on one side at the time, but they will still support the blade on two sides

That is what I may have to do. I would have to think that two cylinders is better than one just due to the amount of impact on the blade and the distribution of said force.

Two cyl's also allows you to use a "true" cross over port relif valve to protect from load pressure spikes...a setup with one way flow restrictors could look like this...

Excellent! That looks like the ticket. Now all I need is to find some cylinders with the length and stroke.

Post some pictures please? There is a large brain trust here that maybe can help find cylinders for you. But I do agree the two are better than one.

You can also turn a DA cylinder into a SA by just venting the rod-end port, Much simpler than AK's elegant solution:thumbsup:
