I don't even use a top link with a rotary cutter. I find that a length of chain allows the BH to follow the ground much better while still allowing me to raise it as needed. My BH 306 has dual tail wheels which allows me to adjust the cutting height and have nice stability over uneven ground as well.

Yep. All the pictures seem to show cutters on skids. Maybe it is a regional thing. Never really thought about it. After considering skids, I still prefer a cutter with a tailwheel in spite of the complexity & expense. To my mind a wheel treats the ground nicer than skids do. A wheel certainly gives more height control. With a standard 5 foot side rotary cutter, I'd go for two wheels before I'd go for none. Although it does looks like either system would work on smooth ground.
