Duane,
I stopped by a home builder's model home down in Central Texas last month. He's really focusing on energy efficiency, and his houses all have Seisco tankless water heaters.
The Seisco literature claims that they have solved the mineral buildup problem, and eliminated the "flickering lights" that other tankless water heaters generate. I don't know if what they claim is true, but they do go into great detail on this page.
However, what was really intruiging to me was that he was matching it up with a MANABLOC manifold plumbing system. It utilizes PEX tubing and has separate hot and cold lines running to every appliance and fixture.
To me, this looks like an ideal system for new construction.
