I now have nearly 40 hours on my BX25 and near time for it's first service. For some reason I don't remember it having as much diesel knock at idle as it does now, and rough when I shut the engine off. As you raise RPM the knock goes away. All fluids are in check and the tractor seems to operate fine otherwise.

here is a video, click on the picture and should open a window to play

so am I being overly paranoid or does it sound excessive?

My 24 does that too and has been since day 1. I also asked the regional service rep about it and was told that it's normal. So I tried one at the shop and saw the same thing. Idle is at about 1250 rpm...He told me that they usually increase it to 1400 to get some of the roughness out of it, but that's the normal shutdown knock you'll always see.

Sounds like my 1860 with 9 hours on it. Thanks for posting though, it gives me some solace. I wouldn't say I was overly concerned about the noise, because it seems to be extremely free of knock when run for a 1/2 hour. Do you notice that yours is quieter when good and hot?

BX24 with 547 hours. Been doing that since I got it.
It is like a Harley engine...noisy!!
It is a diesel, not a Singer!!:D:D (couldn't resist)

my 24 does the same. Its normal but is irritating. Love diesels for power but still enjoy gas engine when it comes to my ears.

I concur- mine does it too when it shuts off. My fathers MF doesnt do it, but it seems to be the norm for the smaller kubotas like the BX's .

I think its due to the way on how slow the solenoid moves to shuts off the fuel.

Sounds and looks just like my BX-25 with about 100 hours on it..., except yours is a bit cleaner. You did that just for the video didn't you!?

Could it be a bit more pronounced now because the weather has been a bit cooler where you are?

could be. it's been frosting in the mornings and only reaching around 50-60 in the afternoons.

thanks for all the replies! I am glad to hear that it's normal and nothing to worry about.

Mine would probably sound like that if I ever ran it that slow. The only time it hits idle is .2 seconds before I turn it off. Diesels are noisy and I think we are always super sensitive when we have something fairly new.
