Keep in mind that mesh and rebar do two separate and different jobs. At least according to the manufactures of each.

Mesh isn't going to provide much tensile strength for any distance. It's obviously limited in it's tensile strength as well, but what it lacks in diameter it makes up for in reduandancy.

From what I understand, rebar is to prevent cracking and the fibers are to prevent cracks from getting larger once they occur.

A rat wall is a trench dug around the perimeter of a structure usually to the depth of the frost line (here 4 feet) and it's required by building code. What we call it here.

We call that the foundation.

There is no requirement like that for a pole barn here. I had a pole barn built here about 10 years ago and it has a 6 inch floor with the edges about a foot thick. I have no rebar in the floor, just fiber in the concrete over compacted crushed cement. The only cracks are in the sawed control joints.

I don't expect rebar to prevent cracking. I expect it to prevent movement after the cracking.

Beyond the issues with the floor, that whole building looks pretty cheesy to me.
I don’t see a lick of diagonal bracing in the walls or roof structure. Forty by fifty and 12’ high is a lot of wind area..

What I don't understand about the argument that they don't need rebar; why then, did they show the attempt to use it?

Maybe, adds nicely to the cost.

If all you want is concrete under your feet, it does the job.

A little more work could have made a better pad, but it will do the basic job. I see it done like that a lot in pole barns here in Texas. Many pads are just wire mesh with concrete poured 4" over it.

I have even seen concrete poured right over grass when I was younger, and the concrete is still there and being used today. Of course concrete was way cheaper back then.
