I'm on a job in Taiwan. I stopped at a local McDonald's the other day and for a limited time you can get the squid burger combo meal.

I wonder if it's as popular as our McRib?

Surely there's a Taco Bell.

The Taiwanese are very big on eating out, so there are little eateries all along the streets. The problem is, you can be walking down the street and smell some great aroma's, until you get a very strong whiff of something that doesn't.

Without really knowing what you're ordering, you sort of feel like you're playing gastric distress roulette.

I was in thailand last week. Picked up some interesting things myself.

We would always joke how some of the folks coming back from an Asia trip would bring "Squid Jerky" to share. Most people got to about 1 bite, max and often spit it out...

I always like going to the food stores when I'm in a foreign country. The flavors of potato chips (or is it potatoe:)) can be interesting as are some of the other foods. I bought some paprika flavored chips and some bamboo charcoal peanuts the other day.

When I was in South Africa, they had chutney flavored potato chips.

Some of them are pretty good. But some are horribly awful. I've had a lot of interesting things over there. One thing I'll never try again is frog legs. Even fried, they somehow managed to be slimy still. But wild caught shrimp deep fried. That's amazing. There are restaurants on the beach where people are actively bringing in nets and boats to supply the restaurant with seafood.

Plus places like hot pot and self grill places are plentiful and cheap.

One of my good friends, in college at U of W, Seattle, was a gal from China. She was always cooking up "interesting" food items. I often wondered where she got the raw ingredients.

She and three other Chinese gals lived in the houseboat adjoining ours.

I remember going to an amazing asian foods market in Seattle one time. It was supermarket sized and I didn't recognize a third of the foods there.
