There are probably threads on this already, but I am in a hurry and don't have much time to search and read.
I am clearing and getting ready to build on some land and I got hit Sunday sometime. I have four shipping containers that have building materials in them along with some other personal things from our move stored. The broke the locks and stole three chainsaws that I know of, ransacked the other containers. Police want us to inventory the containers to see if anything is missing, which we are about to leave this morning and start doing.
What I need quick advice on is, what is a good trail cam that can be used in a place with basically zero cell service and no electricity? Specific brands and models and if you are using, or know someone who is using under similar conditions.
What really pi** me off was they smashed the side door on my cargo trailer and tried to pry open the engine cover on my new excavator.
I will not be able to give a lot of fast responses to any posts here, but please know I will be reading them and respond when I can.

@TimberFarm Sorry about the damages and losses.

I would suggest having a look at Reconyx for cameras, and ABUS 20/80 locks for containers. Reconyx cameras are not cheap, but US made, and come in security and license plate versions, and the cellular versions are available with high power antennas.

With cordless angle grinders, I think that nothing is very secure, and it may be worth the rental fee for a self powered security tower. I would put a hidden cutoff switch or two on the fuel solenoid and fuel pump for the excavator before they make off with that.

+1 on decoy as well as real cameras, and real cameras watching other cameras.

Good luck, and again, sorry for the theft/invasion.

All the best,

Peter

I live on my property. No damn security cameras. "Guests" that I do not instantly recognize are met by me and my 12 gauge.

It did not take long, at all, for word to spread - this is how the "old fart" will be handling uninvited guests.

You come to do me harm - better bring your own grave stone.

It was only the very first year that we had any "bad folks" come to visit.

Forty two years and not a single problem.

Cordless angle grinder could have cut the lock on the cargo trailer without damaging the trailer, but it looks like those thieves used something like a crowbar. Their aim wasn't too good, either, because they punctured the trailer sidewall besides the entry door.

Without being too specific, could you identify the location of the lawless land you are looking to relocate to (State? County? Township?)

It is a shame that more of these f ing little scumbags are cured with lead, because that is the only thing that will turn this trend around. Worthless scumbag thieves should have absolutely NO rights when caught in the act, they should be treated like the vermin that they are.
