Tractor
Mahindra 4500 4WD w/FEL, and Scotts S2048 lawn tractor
Went to an auction yesterday and saw a 2006 2615 with FEL go for $7900. Even with the 10% Dealer Premium tacked on the buyer walked off with a bargain.
Wasn't in the market for a tractor, trying to sell one myself, but I thought that was a real buy. Things were going for practically nothing, except for the couple of items I was interested in, like $20 for an old pitchfork.

I have gone to a local auction for years now, you used to be able to get a deal now and then, I got a 8' cultipaker for $10. Lately all the city farmers have bid items out of sight, last fall I wanted a york rake and the bidding got out of hand, I went down the road and bought a new one for $35 more than the winning bid on the beater.

I have to agree with Toad. A community service group I work with provides food and beverages at several auctions each year. I have quit registering because of the prices things go for. I just have not seen bargains lately. It's crazy.

The last one we did had a lot of tractor and farm equipment, and it all went for serious prices. There was an old rusty boom pole that went for $150!! A few days before the auction I bought a set of binoculars for my daughter-in-law at Gander Mountain. An identical set at the auction went for almost double what I'd paid new. Rifles and shotguns were going for new prices.

Well this proves one thing I alway have said. When you need to dispose of equipment or almost anything do it by the auction method, "Most money in the shortest amount of time"!

I have been involved with auction most of my life. Actually in June of 1973 my fahter, a cattle dealer, sent me to Reisch Auction College in Mason City, Iowa. The cattle and farming business was coming to an end in southern New Jersey. So he thought we could make some money having disposal sales for area farmers.

I have been the auctioneer or one of the auctioneers for over 1,000 or more sales (of all types) since 1973. I can honestly say tractors and other equipment will always bring good money. It all depends on two things. 1. Was the sale advertised well enough and 2. Is the equipment in good condition? Good used equipment will always bring good money. At an auction the auctioneer's chant builds a fever of bidding, folks get ito the rythmn of bidding and before you know it they have paid almost new price for good used equipment. But there are also many deals out there all you have to do is look.

An update to this story.
Being advertised in the local American Classifieds is a 2006 2615 with FEL for over $10K. The seller just so happens to be the dealer who originally sold the 2615 I saw at the auction. I thought I recognized the buyer.
That's the way to make money. Sell the same tractor twice.
