I don't know whether they were the same size or not, but I saw two or three of those machines clearing parts of the right-of-way along I-40 in Tennessee a year ago; most impressive and the only time I've seen one, but couldn't stop to make any pictures, and besides that I wouldn't have wanted to get anywhere in the vicinity while they were running /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif.

Re: These are different and for some reason I want

I finally got some of them to work with Quicktime. Neat machines. Fecon makes units similar to these.

Re: These are different and for some reason I want

They have been testing various brush clearing in a UC Berkeley research forest, Blodgett Forest, near here. It makes short work of it...

Bird, after watching that first video at Robert's link, it raised a question. They cut the top half of the tree off and it fell to the ground. The bottom half of the tree got ground up, but what did they do with the remaining top half of the tree? I think to make the process complete, they need a tub grinder like the one in my attachment. I see these used around here quite a bit when they are clearing hiway right-of-way.

I really have no idea what they did with the top half, Jim. I would just guess that they ground it up, too, when they got it down on the ground, but that's just a guess. Like I said, the only time I've seen any in operation, I was driving along the Interstate at the speed limit, so I didn't get a very good look.

The Fecon models I've seen have a "mulching door" that encloses the cutter allowing one to "mulch" tops and underbrush.
