The two soldiers waited until the truck was on the bridge before they blew it up.

I wonder if the person with blood running down his face, beside the truck, is the driver?

Right click on picture, "open image in a new tab" enlarges the photo.

Thought that was a fireman looking down and you see his helmet.

Hard to come to any conclusions without a lot more pictures, and story. Someone must have considered it safe.
It doen't sound like it was a big job. Why not move the concrete with a skid steer or something? But again, that's just speculation.

That's an interesting possibility. A long, rickety bridge could make a pretty good tuning fork!

Anyone care to guess how they will recover that truck?

My Son works for a Tow Company that has a Rotator Wrecker with an 80K lb capacity boom. He would possibly be orgasmic at the challenge of recovering this truck with minimal additional damage to the truck!!!!!

Not being ble to get to the other side will probably make it especially challenging.

When I got concrete for our garage addition this summer, I asked the company what happens if the truck gets stuck in soft dirt or falls into a septic system.

The guy said "First, we empty the concrete into your yard so our truck doesn't get ruined. Next, we call a HUGE tow truck, because the empty truck weighs about 30,000#. Finally, we send you the bill for the concrete and towing, which is usually several thousand dollars."

YIKES!

I'm guessing that bridge in the OPs story isn't rated for 30,000# empty truck, let alone the additional weight of any concrete in the truck.

The homeowner has a nice looking spread there. Google earth the address. Large house and several outbuildings, plus what appears to be lots of concrete driveway on both sides of the bridge. Either they got the concrete in over the bridge or took another way around. Probably figured it was OK.

Again, just guessing, but driver probably asked the homeowner if they'd waive liability for any damage to the bridge. The homeowner probably figured we did it before, so we'll do it again. OK.

I base that on the three truckloads of concrete I got, and all three times, the drivers asked me to waive liability for any damage to our asphalt driveway, as they were pretty sure the truck would crack it.

But, yes, it is just guessing.

They’re more than that at least the ones here. They’re either 34,000 or 38,000 empty and 74,000 loaded.

I'd love to watch the recovery. Maybe you can film it Richard, it's out in your neighborhood.....Nice drone footage.... Just think, I've been across thousands of bridges up here in Michigan, many in not good condition, grossing 163,000 pounds (and sometimes more)(some times a LOT more). we got paid by the hundredweight.

I remember one time I delivered to an outfit north of Detroit and I was turning in the parking lot and watching the blacktop roll up under my wheels. Those were the days.

That article was from 2015. I missed it at first, too. Would sure be nice to have a follow up on the situation!
