Got another truck load of crushed limestone this morning. Had some time this afternoon so got it spread. Biggest load I have had, 27.32 ton. Glad as it was just enough to finish the drive. Finally got it pretty well figured out by the time I was done. :laughing:

Made the wife happy which is always a good thing.

Just curious if crushed concrete was an option? Someday I'll be in the market for enough to do a 900' driveway....

Cheaper than other options, or just your preference?

It seems less stain-able or stain-noticeable than limestone.

There is just so much of it around here that it is cheaper, but also it makes a very good top coat that locks in pretty good,

Ground up asphalt is big around here too...

Thanks! The crushed concrete is an option but was not that much cheaper here, at least where I priced it. Had good luck with the 1 1/2 I got from this quarry so stuck with what I know. Our drive with the turn around is right at 1,000 feet total. We initially put 400 ton of the 1 1/2 base after raising the drive about 10 to 12 inches. Everything is so flat here on our property that if we had not raised it any we would have had water standing. It has been three years and this is the first top coat I have put on.

Got this rock out of the driveway! Had part of driveway redone via hired bulldozer a couple of months ago. This rock was about 6" proud of the surface and wouldn't budge. I started in on it last week with mattock and shovel, soon I could not budge. Tuesday I picked up a set of pallet forks, to help move some building materials. Worked great. Today I attacked the rock with the forks, digging around it to loosen the ground, then trying to lift it. Repeat.

I could hear thunder approaching, gave it one last try. It moved, but would not come out. I moved to a different spot and tried again. POP! Out it came. Probably not a big deal to all, but a huge first for me. New tractor, new forks, and a big problem gone.

Of course, now I need to fill and compact the hole. : - )
