Wanted to pull down a tree this morning with my Dynamo Hummm but could'nt get Dynamo humming !! Initially turned over about 1-1/2 times (slowly) & then just silence.....I was bummed. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Checked if I was out of gear & emerg brake applied. Everything looked good so I tried it again.....nothing....zero. Had to use neighbours Tractor & also charger. Put battery on a trickle charge for 6 hours while I took the tree out. Tried again...nothing. Now I can't remember but I thought each time I turned the ignition key prior to this incident the PTO light did not come on. Tried wiggling the PTO safety switch but no luck. Can any of you guys please confirm back that when you turn the ignition key (prior to starting.....glow plugs have not warmed up yet) that your PTO light is NOT on. If that's the case then I have found the culprit.

Thanks from DIRE Straits !!

the same thing just happened to me on my tc30. went crazy trying to figure out what wire came off. turned out my lever for the mid-mount was up and it should be down. i think when i got off the tractor i must have caught it with my pants and didn't realize it. it was glowing and lighting but no ignition. look for your pto levers and make sure their in the off position. also the wire came disconnected under the floor board once and it didn't start. but if it ran when you put it away i would almost bet it's one of the pto or mid mount lever in the "on" position.

Mr. DIRE Staits. . . /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Pull your instrument panel and replace fuse #2. The PTO light on constantly means the fuse is blown. Your battery was probably a little weak when you tried to start. That makes the circuit draw excessive current thru that #2 fuse.

You have now been inducted into the #2 fuse club of america. As your initiation, you get to buy the beer. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Thanks for replying jjcc246 & jinman.

jjcc246,

PTO Lever is all the way back so is disengaged. I tried moving it forward & back again just to see if safety switch was stuck in one position. Manual says PTO light is on when PTO is engaged with key in the "ACC/Run" or "Start" positions. That's why I thought it was probably a malfunctioning PTO safety switch.

jinman,

Sounds like you have had / heard of this problem many times in the past. I'll check the fuse this morning.

Thanks again to both,

Still in DIRE Straits,

Vic

Holy-Ring-Molely !! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Fuse #2 (7.5A) is indeed fried. Have to go straight to the Dealership & get me a set of fuses. Hopefully my battery is not on it's way out. I'm pretty sure its the original from 2001.

Thanks again jinman, your the BEST !! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Might want to stop at an auto parts store and get a circuit breaker instead of a fuse.

Yeah Mike, I noticed that the manual actually states an 8A C.B. instead of a fuse. Would seem to make alot more sense if this circuit is prone to large currents. C.B. is slower to open than a fuse & of course can just reset instead of having to replace. The one thing I am not sure of is if you can get a C.B. with the same blade style plugs & also needs to be small enough to fit.

I've seen small CB's for power windows. Worst case scenereo is you get one that doesn't fit.. then attatch short correct gauge wires to it with appropriate spade tips the same size as fuse blades.. etc., then locate it next to the fuse box.

Thanks to jinman my Dynamo is humming again. Looks like I owe jinman a case of his favourite beverage !! Does anybody know what he likes to consume in mass quantities ?? /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Soundguy,

Sounds interesting enough & definitely would be easy to rig up. Thanks for the advice !! I now have lots of spare fuses on hand but if it keeps giving me trouble will have to look into CB. Hopefully my battery is not starting to cave.

One Happy Tractor Type Guy Again !!

Vic, the older I get, the beverage of choice is diet soda, but being an old sailor, I guess I still have the bad habit of drinking coffee in mass quantities. I only get to do a beer or two on weekends. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'm glad your tractor is back on it's good behavior. I've managed to pop that #2 fuse twice. The last time when I asked the parts guy at my dealership for an 8-amp fuse, he swore that it was supposed to be 7.5 amp. That seems strange to me. There is either something very sensitive they are protecting, or they just want to sell a lot of fuses. How many tractors do you think have ended up going in for service when all they needed was that fuse? /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Anyhow, no beverages are needed. Just keep a keen eye out for someone else with the same problem and you may be able to save them a lot of time and grief also. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
