Tractor won\'t start... need help please...

Hey guys... I was doing some cleaning up an obviously ran over something that tore apart some wires underneath my Mahindra 6500. It didn't stop the tractor, but once I cut the tractor off, it would not start back. It will turn over. It gets power from the battery when I turn the key to on... guages and lights will all work but it will not turn over.

I started looking and tracing wires all over. Crawled up under the tractor and on the right side between the right rear tire and the center (I guess that would be the transfer casing - runs from front to back)... anyway... there are several wires in a bundle there and a few of them tore apart. There were four I splice back together but it still didn't crank.

There is also a pair of female spade plugs inside a black rubber boot that is hanging next to all these wires. The two wires that are connected to the spades are black/yellow striped and black/white striped. I'm wondering if instead of splicing all those four wires back if maybe two of them should have male spades and be plugged into those two wires in the rubber boot.

The four wires that were cut are as follows:
black/yellow striped (just like one of the spaded wires)
yellow/red striped
green/red striped
red

Again... since there were two of each of the above I simply spliced them all back together. I couldn't see anything that appeared like it should be plugged into the two female spades in the black rubber boot.

If anyone has a 6500 service manual with the wiring diagram for that area... I would greatly be indebted if you could look at it and tell me if any of those wires should be connected to the female spades.

Please help! Many many thanks!

Sonnie

At ease! It's back crankin' now. Whew! My brother-in-law came by and crawled up under there... got to lookin' around and those two spades were the neutral cut off switch wires and there were lugs to plug then into on the side of the transmission case. I just didn't see them. He plugged them in and wha-la... she fired right on up.

Man am I relieved!

If you were lookin' for me in the service manual... I do still appreciate it. If there's anything else I might need to know I'm all ears.

Thanks!

Btw... still absolutely lovin' my tractor. Don't know how I'd live without it.

I think you hit on a somewhat common scenario - I've had a couple of no start situations that all were related to safety switch faults. The other one that is common on my tractor is the PTO Clutch safety switch below the seat on the left side. The metal screw in adjuster/plunger regularly backs out and causes a fault/safety switch to disengage. I kind of use it as an additional security switch.

I guess the weak battery ground wire has also been discussed but don't know if there was an official factory mod to remediy that one.

heehee... naw... I leveled out their driveway and got rid of all the potholes that would nearly swallow the VW bug they got. I keep it graded regularly too. So I figure we can just keep scratchin' each others back.

Sounds like it... I've been fairly fortunate thus far. I lost a ring pin once but my dad found it in the garden. I try to check things regularly such as bolts to make sure they are all tight. I noticed a ground wire bolt under the seat that was loose the other day.
