Today a friend brought me some logs I traded out of him, including this very nice walnut,

It will be interesting to see what kind of lumber comes out of it!!

Hi Rob, are walnut the most coveted saw logs in our temperate forests?

Quality being equal what are the most desirable trees as lumber goes...white oak, hickory, sugar maple, cherry ?

We just had about 30 acres cut off the farm. This area was pretty steep hills with rocky soil. Mostly Chestnut and White Oak. On the stump White Oak was $50 more per thousand. Of that 30 total acres 10 or so was along creek bottoms with lots of nice Poplar's.

Bob I would like to see some pics of that beautiful log when you get it cut. Glad you have a stud tractor and loader.

Did a little cutting today ourselves. It was hot, but not too bad in the shade. First time since I got the L5240 that we used both tractors.

Although I do not like to cut firewood in the summer (especially in the afternoon), it will be great to have it done before hunting season.

I agree. there are only a couple of reasons to use a chainsaw in the summer - tree trimming and storm clean-up.

Did some root raking and grading with the Woods grapple, then opened up one of the blockages on my trails and took the tractor on some dirt it's never seen.

Didn't take any pics, but had a pretty good day despite the humidity.

Took a trailer load of rounds out of the log length stack yesterday for one of my City customers that burns for ambiance
Left for the woodlot at 6 AM, home by 8. Hit 89 degrees yesterday on the way to 91 today. Hope to get in a little early AM brush hogging today.
