I have 2 guys who will cut and pay me for chunks of it. It is quite dense and wet at the
core, and will be dried and used for furniture or other objets d'art. Looking for more
folks (with big saws) to come and cut off some chunks.

To properly cross-cut a section off of the remaining stump in the ground would require
an 8-ft saw, or be cut into sections. It would make a wonderful tabletop. It is now
drying super-fast, so needs to be harvested.

This show: Redwood Kings | Animal Planet is on Animal Planet [a cable channel].

They're in Paso Robles, Ca, and they have those huge saws for slabbing redwood,

They also go into the woods to pull out windfallen chinks and old stumps to use for all kinds of building accents and in many cases, they use whole [hollowed out] stumps, which are made into playhouses, cabins, or whatever you can think of, and then dropped in by crane to your site.

After working on this on-and-off for weeks, I at last pulled over my giant old redwood stump. I
used my tractor, a cable, and a snatch block. A 20T jack set into a pocket was also used. The
stump was about 12' tall, and about 7' x 9.5' at the cut. I posted a video here:

The tree was first cut down over 100 y ago, and was several hundred years old.

The project was difficult due to the lack of a long enough chainsaw. Mine is only
36".

Nice little video but something tells me that it was sort of an anti-climax thing after all the work you put in getting the base cut enough so it would give up and come over.

Boy I hope so with all that work! I have always enjoyed seeing those very big old stumps when hiking in the forest. Especially with the foot board notches still visible. Monuments to days long ago.

I've got a couple a ancient Cedar stumps in Olympia with foot board notches and the old skidding trail to the water with a couple of logs set into the bank for rolling the logs into the water...

It's the kinds of things that get my imagination going.

Facebook has been doing a great job of making me feel guilty that I'm so far behind on firewood reminding me of how much I'd accomplished by this time last year so I finally git at it today. Good start!

I have never seen that show, but I am a sucker for "reality" shows where they make things.

Redwood stumps are a target of "burl poachers", apparently. Those are the people who trespass
on public or private land to cut chunks of trees. More often they seem to target birdseye maple
and mesquite burlwood.

Turned my stump vise into a bucket vise. Put it on the back of the bucket so it is pretty much out of harms way.
