Hey all,

I've been contemplating getting a cab tractor for a while now. A local dealer has a nice 3320 Cab, 2005 MY, with 300CX loader and 223 hrs on the meter. Price is 24,495. I talked with the dealer, looked the tractor over. Seems it mostly did loader work, judging by the wear on the inside of the bucket, but overall the tractor is in nice shape other than the front tires being a little worn. I have the 2006 3320 OS in my sig, 300 hrs, powreverser, great condition...dealer said they could do $14,500 for trade on my tractor, and that includes allowing me to swap the loaded tires and HD bucket from my machine to the cab machine. That would leave about $10,000 out of pocket to upgrade, unless I decide to put something down. I know used interest rates run about 6 - 7% at best, so when all said and done it'd be between about 2500 +/- on top of that $10k. Thoughts on the deal?

How's the power when running the A/C with a cab on the 3320? Mostly now the tractor is used to run a 6' Woods finish mower. Other than that, just loader work. Years ago I would run an IH Cub with a Woods 59" deck, I think those were only 11 or 14 hp, and it would spin it fine when it was properly tuned and had sharp blades. I really think power will be fine. Part of me says the only upgrade is getting a cab and the hydro trans. Another part of me says your only getting that, but no power increases or anything, and I also wonder about longevity of the a/c components and such for the cab. Part of me says to pass on the deal as it isn't a huge upgrade other than the cab and hydro, and I could probably find a 3520/3720 for not much more or the same money. Though I still keep thinking about it as it would be a nice upgrade from what I have now.

Thanks,

Rick

Tractor I'm looking at: 2005 3320

Sounds like a lot of money to upgrade to a cab(being the same machine).New on the floor should have only been $5,000-$6,000 upgrade.

I would not be in a hurry to make that trade as you are basically paying $10k for a 10 year old cab. A new cab when buying your tractor would have been several thousand less. If it were me I would look for a 3720 used with or without a fel at a good price and possibly reuse your existing fel. I would also consider selling your 3320 OS private sale and buying the most suitable tractor for your needs. Repeated trading is costly for the consumer.

Sounds like a great deal... for the dealer. What would a aftermarket cab cost for your current 3320?

I agree, when put that way 10k is a high price for a 10 year old tractor w/ a cab. In contrast, I was browsing ad's last night and found a 2010 3520 with just over 300 hrs for 25k, better condition than this one, though not at a dealer. Unfortunately an aftermarket cab won't work for me. The main reason for a factory cab is because of it being air tight, or almost 100%, and the a/c. I have horrible allergies and have to wear a respirator whenever I cut grass, so the cab would get rid of that factor. I hate to say it, but I've even looked at other brands of tractor's, not main stream ones like JD or Kubota, and it's tempting seeing new ones priced at used JD prices. But overall I'd really like to stick with JD. I will likely just wait it out until the right deal comes along, and may even try selling mine out right. Thanks.

You won't have to worry about the ac pulling too much HP because it usually doesn't work anyway.

In 2011 went from 2008 3320 O/S to 2007 3320 CAB. Best thing I ever did. Actually should have bought CAB in the first place. love the A/C in the summer and Heat in the winter. I have not looked at the market lately, but, the $10K - $12.5K difference you are mentioning sounds way high to me. I purchased the CAB private and sold the O/S private. Without checking exact figures, at the time my net cost was in the $3k - $4.5k range. The CAB unit came with a snow blower, but I also had to add mid pto and upgrade some brackets for the MMM. Again from memory, at the time the CB option was about $5K new, but don't recall up charge for ehydro.

Local dealer here in winchester has (maybe had) a late model with 20 hours on it for what I remember being similar priced to the one you are looking at. Cab loader ect, all like new. I say price around or see if that one is still available...

cab is probably an e hydro? that is a cost difference there too. 10k for a cab isn't out of the ball park. I realize a lot of guys on here are saying its too much difference in cost. I thought only 35/3720s come with cabs?

Looked to be a real, clean tractor. Figuring in the optional cost of the eHydro makes the deal a little more palatable..

Is that a firm price from the dealer? As I recall, there was a long-running discussion here on TBN about the cab model 3320. Not enough Hp for brush hogging during the hot days of summer and running the A/C, etc.

And it was kinda a "tweener" tractor Hp wise, non-turbo and didn't Deere drop it from the lineup 'cause it didn't move off the dealer's lots as fast as the other 30x20's?

So, long-story short.. Maybe shoot the dealer an offer than could bring the final cost inline with just a $5-6K upgrade cost.

Cabs are sweet! And having eHydro is a mighty fine thing as well -IMO.

Good luck.
