I just finished putting a new bed, sides and wheel bearings on a trailer that was given to me. I have a pretty good sized property including an area we just had a house moved from that needs a lot of clean up. I am using my box blade extensively and I don't see that changing any time soon. Removing the box is a lot of trouble every time I need to take the trailer out to the site with all my shovels, chain saw, gas etc..... Has anyone ever attempte to put a trailer ball in the back face of a box blade? If so how?

Thanks
Wade

I think the easiest would be to simply weld a trailer hitch receiver onto the rear end of the box blade. I don't have a welder, so I'm contemplating my own way to fabricate this, but it's not looking good yet.

I'd like to have a trailer ball on the rear of my 6' blade as well as the box blade.

You can bolt or weld a piece of angle iron on to the back of your box blade to mount a trailer ball or receiver onto. I have a piece of flat bar scrap on my back blade, needed it quick and still there 20 yrs later, not painted, only a little bent.

I have seen some the ball is just welded to back plate, just used to move empty trailer around nothing really heavy... The reciever would be a better route to me would put the trailer alittle further back for turning and could use multi. Different reciever, probaly have to clear the dirt sometimes.

I bought a box blade 15 yrs back used, it already had a ball mounted to the top edge, they just drilled a hole in the top lip and bolted the ball on. I do think a piece of angle bolted on the back of the blade would work better. I don't see where it would be in the way of anything and if it got covered in dirt, wouldn't hurt anything.

I built a section harrow and put a reese tube on the back of it. By it being extended back from the tractor, unless the trailer is loaded really heavy, it works great just to move a trailer around.

Yep, I've got a receiver welded on top of the bb. I have a nice trailer mover but the box blade is usually already on the tractor so it certainly made life more convenient.

I have a Rhino BX66 box blade that I just drilled a hole in the top lip of the blade for the ball. It has worked very well and been on there for more than 10 years without bending. The top of the blade is folded back about 2". It is 1/4" steel I think.

I welded a hunk of 3/8" flat bar onto mine with a hole for a ball mount. that was the first week I bought it. I wish I had put on a receiver tube though as would be much easier to change ball mounts or ball sizes or adding a snatch hook etc ...

HF has them on sale right now 18" receiver tubes that is. you can also weld on an old truck receiver which is what I welded onto my FEL bucket...

I put my trailer ball on the front tractor bumper. It is much easy to maneuver a trailer pulled from the front instead of the rear and I don't have to worry about changing anything on the rear of the tractor.
