New England trailers goes over each trailer sold before you leave their lot, including checking the brakes, electric lines, lights, battery, etc,, Buying from them, you aren't leaving the property immediately...

Kaufman does this also.

Pistol, what other brands did you look at before deciding on Kaufman? Did you go with them from strickly a price stand point? I have been giving them serious consideration. If I could just find a new one local to look over. I still really like the build of the Brimar an PJ units.

There are not many trailer dealers close to me, so I mostly did my "shopping" over the phone and web. I did not look at any in person before I purchased mine. The 3 brands you are looking at all belong to NATM, so I don't think you would go wrong with any of them. Kaufman was the most convenient and knocked off a little for me to come pick up the trailer and another 2% for paying cash. That helped with the final decision.

Well, I figured I owe it to the forum to update this thread. I ended up driving to PA to pickup a lightly used Belmont 18' 12k tilt. It towed pretty well on the ride home and I've yet to use it yet.

I had a few brush hogging jobs lined up that fell threw. So today I figured I'd load up the tractor to see how it fits. My first thought was how my 25' PJ GN was the cat's meow and I reget selling it. Load placement is tough with the tilt's as I've read but loading and unloading is sure slick. I guess it's a trade off.

These tilts seem to really cater to skids and mini x's with weight centered over the axles. With tractors being rather long it's a bit tricky. Here are some pics.

Is it a power tilt? Reason I ask is if you have to pull on forward with say the bush hog on the back and its gravity I am not so sure it will go down???? And if it does it may have negative tongue weight.

It isn't a power tilt, it has the cylinder with a dampner valve. It will always go down due to the pivot placement. I had the tractor turned around but with the weight of the hoe and loaded tires it was negative. I could easily add the hydro pump to make it powered I just don't see the need at this point. It still won't help with weight distribution. I think the axle placement further back a foot would be a huge improvement. But for s skid or mini I think it's good where it's at(which is it's design).

It's a very nice trailer qualitywise and if it doesn't work out for my needs I may just have to go back to a gn for the added bed length. Time will tell.

Or just get away with the tilt. When I was dealing with more utility trailers it was a issue I seen as well. Axle placement can make all the difference in the world.

I worked on a boat trailer Saturday. The tandem axles were fixed so we moved the bow stop back 4" on a 27' boat. By doing so we took the bottom of the bumper on a mid 2000s' 1/2 ton 4x4 Dodge from 17 1/4" to 20". Again this was just moving a 8,000# boat back 4" it raised the rear of the truck 3 1/4".
