I bought the machine off craigslist a year ago. Was pulling a trac vac while mowing and it was full. While I was pulling a hill, you could tell the teeth broke off one of the driveshafts. it banged and then wouldn't go anywhere while making an abnoxious grinding sound. First thing I did was put it in the barn and removed the trans. Was hoping to rebuild whatever broke. Looks like the axle teeth sheered off and I have a couple broken teeth on another sprocket. No big deal. however, I noticed where the axle gets perched that the transaxle case is busted tooo. So the whole unit is shot IMO. What do you guys recommend I do. The rest of the machine is in superb condition. Great motor and great deck. Cosmetocally sound too. The trans is a peerless 801- 060. Anyone else run into this situation? Havent found a new trans online yet but even so, should I replace the trans or start looking for another used machine

If the housing is busted I suspect it's gone.
The number MIGHT be 801-801-060, not sure.
I bought a new Peerless once new from Sears parts as it was cheaper that ordering thru the dealer.
The JD parts page shows no number for the 801-060, but an option might be # MIA10320 or AM104533.
Do your own research because this is all unclear to me.
Wengers of Myerstown is one salvage yard. I would try to find a used one.
I suspect this is a $800 part new and the mower may not be worth it... your call.
