People seem to like pictures of projects so here are a few...

Taking down a few trees prior to making a ditch along road. I used some blocks and 1/2" cable with lots of height on attachment to the trees and still had some trouble getting them out. Tractor is Kubota L3600. Pulling them over to get the stumps out. Ended up moving the attachment on the smaller one up about 4' and cut a few more roots before I got it over. The largest one has been dead several years. Others were alive. Going to have to dig some around the base before I can get it out. I couldn't budge it so moved the attachment up and broke the top off - at least that's some progress. 100+ feet of cable and some sturdy blocks sure are handy.

Nice working weather this time of year. A bit cool which is perfect in my opinion.

You can see the cable just above the fork. Used a 28' ladder to get that high. The tractor roof rack er... ROPS and bucket work fairly well to carry it.

The big leaning one in the background of the first photo looks like a prime candidate for removal also.

So wait, you just pulled them down using the tractor and didn't do any chainsawing?

Looks like a public road (or at least a shared drive). Any permits or permission needed before doing this work?

Whats next, a big ol' ditch with culvert going under the road?

Thanks for sharing, we certainly do love pics of projects.

No chainsawing? Of course not. That would be crazy. Have to feed the CAD too. :) Just didn't post on that.

I did have to cut a few roots. I got off as much dirt as possible but still dulls the chain fast. I had one hollow live maple about 15" diameter with only 2" shell remaining. Made the mistake of cutting it down and couldn't get the stump out whole so ended up cutting vertically and pulling it out in sections. The center of the base was rotten too so it was easy. Surprising how hard it was to pull out whole.

Most of the chainsawing is after they are down.

Private road. No permits needed for the amount of dirt that will be moved.

Next is small ditch and upgrade existing culverts. See my other post on culverts and road work...

That close to a powerline, the power company would have probably been more that happy to cut those down for you. I called my utilities company and ask if they would remove a tree close to the line for me and they not only came and cut it down but they brought out a whole tree chipper and turned it into mulch for me!
