Trying to Choose Flail Mower for Kubota L3710

The Woodmaxx FM-78's cutting width is 74". So, right about 6'. Again, what you're going to mow matters. And generally you start out with rougher land to manage, so things start out slower. Hammer blades would likely be best with a big mix of stuff to mow.

A cheaper flail is likely easier to resell than a more expensive one. But, it's pretty much relative: I don't think the actual difference between new price and resale price is going to be that much different. For myself, until I can prove exactly how equipment will work for me I'm hesitant to buy higher-end.

I'm so sick of the bush hog banging on the ground and tearing up the grass when I'm using the front end loader, I have to do something. I'll see what Woodmaxx has to say.

If the issue is when you're using the bush hog as ballast then, yes, I agree that they're not really good ballast devices (long tail). I've found that on my NX5510 that I can readily lift up a bucket of material (and I've scooped a LOT) with NO ballast hanging off the back- my rears are ballasted; the box blade on it (1,200 lbs) pretty much ensures there will be no concern of lifted rears. When in operation, though, the bush hog shouldn't be doing a lot of banging and tearing up of the turf (within reason that is); IF you've got a floating top link (I had a non-floater on my B7800's previous bush hog and once I got another bush hog with a floating top link I couldn't believe how much better things were!).

I'll have to find out what a floating top link is.

The bush hog is banging around when I use it for ballast. I bought this machinery last year with the farm I now live on. Also got a golf cart and John Deere garden tractor. The seller wanted out cheap. The Kubota already had the bush hog and some brush forks mounted on it. The seller said he always kept the bush hog in place for ballast. I guess it works, but the banging never stops, and even when I have the bush hog lifted, the rear tire sometimes digs into the ground and tears things up.

I just got a ballast box, but obviously, it's not going to mow my pasture for me.

Picture of bush hog (and actual brand!) with floating top link (pretty standard on most newer units):

No single implement can do it all. If you're doing loader work then equip for that. If you're doing mowing work then equip for that. Fact of tractor life that one has to change implements.
