Types of brush hogs? Chain v\'s Blade! for DK55.

I'm in the process of looking at a new brush hogger (or slasher as we call them down under) for my new DK55.

I'd like to get some feedback on the pro's & con's on a chain or blade slasher & the conditions that each are best suited to, as well as the size best that would best suit a DK55.

Love to hear from any fella's running DK55's with set ups as above.

I don't understand the title to your post. Are you asking a question about which to use a chain, or blade on your bush hog to cut grass with? On all bush hogs that I have ever seen uses a blade to cut with, not a chain. The only thing chain wise that my bush hog has on it is front, and rear chain guards. Sorry that I couldn't be more of help.

I've never known anyone to use a chain slasher here in the States, but I've heard of them. I've never seen one though.

Hi Cabinholler & John, we have both here in Australia so I guess I'll have to ask around here as we don't have a great forum like this (yet).

So far though from what I've discovered the blade type will best suited for my needs.

Buzz........is your chain slasher the same thing as a flail mower? Here is a link to a BEFCO flail mower.

G'day Jamie, no not like the flail mower, it's just like the slasher in the link that vin posted above but instaed of having solid bar blades it has chains that swing in their place.
I guess that they are more suited to uneaven & rocky ground as the chains give a little.
The draw back with this is that you won't get as nice a finish as you would potentially get with the fixed bar blade slasher.
Seeing as most of my 14 acres is reasonabley flat & has no rocks to speak of the bar blade is probably the way that I'll end up going.
I must admit I have never seen the style of mower in the link that you provided but then I still do have a lot to learn.

Daken have just 2 dealers in W.A. & the closest is 2 hours away. (There's a lot more dealers in the east).
They certainly look like a quality unit & I like the option of a galvanised unit but for the sake of convenience & service I think I'll have to go for something a lot more common in this part of the country.
