U.S. Speed Skating Uniforms.....Weird??

Our speed skaters have some strange looking uniforms for the upcoming games.....kinda weird.

Their research says having suits that have dimples (like golf balls) rather than the historically smooth suits, will shave a few hundreths of a second off times. In this sport, that could be the difference between winning a metal or not winning. Too funny on the crotch color difference. I have no clue what they were thinking when they decided that angle.

They just copied Petro Canada's logo!

Hmm. Original costumes were the ones given them by God, for 1200 years. They didn't have winter sports back then though.

Maybe the material for the crotch area is a different type that produces less friction as the inner thighs rub against each other.
Or it could be to just show off the crotch - like this:
