Road Trip! Photos From US Route 30 in 1948 | LIFE.com

Just for fun, some vintage 1948 transportation pics along the Lincoln Highway. The old campers sort of put things in perspective. :D

Lincoln Highway - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Conceived in 1912 by Indiana entrepreneur Carl G. Fisher, and formally dedicated October 31, 1913, the Lincoln Highway ran coast-to-coast from Times Square in New York City to Lincoln Park in San Francisco, originally through 13 states: New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, Nevada, and California."

We removed a stretch of the old Lincoln Highway to reconstruct a new road a few years back in Tooele Utah. It was old brittle weak concrete. We'll...the Lincoln Highway was actually hidden under the existing road that we had to reconstruct.

I live about a mile from the current US-30, and about 15 miles south of the section of "Old Lincoln Highway" that is now IL-38 through Dekalb. It's cool to learn about some of it's history.
