I'm considering a 2001 used 6000 2wd with about 450hrs on it. The chassis appears to be clean, but I did notice a little oil on the underside of the engine. When I crawled under it, there are a few small spots where the oil was forming a drop or two. The unit has been sitting idle for a while and there were no signs of puddles underneath it. Is this normal, or am I headed for something bad here ?

Also, are there any major tune-ups/service coming up that I need to budget for ?

Any comments appreciated,

Charlie Walther

Don't think that it would mean much. A "weep" here or there after 450 hrs wouldn't deter me from the purchase. BUT: Couple of questions--1. Is it privately owned or is it at a dealer? 2. Does it have an FEL? 3. What do you plan on using it for? 4. Did you ask to see the service record? (A 50 hour checkup is required and if I'm not mistaken, on the 01's, the head bolts should have been retorqued at 50 hrs and therefore the valves adjusted as well.) This was not required on 02's and later as they changed the way the heads were torqued on. I actually thought about a 2 WD but ended up with the 4 WD and am really glad I did.

Thanks for the info. It's through a dealer, but he doesn't have any of the service records. I guess it's too late now, cuz yesterday I bit the bullet and bought it.

New 6Ft SHredder

You did fine! You're gonna enjoy it. But....since you don't have the service records, change the oil/filter (if the dealer didn't), replace the primary fuel filter (thats the first one in line--looking at them, its the one on the right). Hopefully, your 6000 came with rear wheel weights. You may need more as the FEL can lift over 2000 lbs( you don't want the rear end getting light if you lift a bunch). You got some good equipment with the tractor! Let us know what you intend to do. Note: My 6000 is helping a good friend build his house for the next couple of months. Good Luck and get an owner's manual as soon as you can. If you don't have one, or have one available, just ask here and someone will supply the answers/stuff. BobG in VA

How about some pics, I like the Mahindra, but I am kind of partial to the old style. I think you did good. good luck with it.
